How to Play

Play Templok game online for free. Templok is a vertical and horizontal line making game which was inspired by the hit classic game Tetris. This game is rendered in mobile-friendly HTML5, so it offers cross-device gameplay. You can play it on mobile devices like Apple iPhones, Google Android powered cell phones from manufactures like Samsung, tablets like the iPad or Kindle Fire, laptops, and Windows-powered desktop computers. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Click anywhere on the load screen to begin the game.
- The game welcome screen also contains a sound control button in the upper left corner.
- Game Controls
  - Playing
    - Drag pieces from the bottom of the screen into the playing field, placing them on the squares you want them to occupy.
      - Unlike Tetris, pieces do not fall in this game, but stay where you placed them on the playing field until lines have been created.
      - Pieces in this game have a far wider range of variations than the original Tetris game.
        Pieces can range from as small as a single square to as large as a 3 by 3 square, a 3 by 3 square with a hole in the middle, 4 long with a leg, or 5 long.
        In the upper left corner there is a hamburger menu button which opens up the game menu revealing a sound control button, a restart game button, and the game rules.
        Scoring
        You score points by laying pieces onto the playing field and more points by making lines.
        You can score more points by making multiple lines at once.
        When you make multiple lines at once you get bonus piece spins or piece replacements.
        You can score more points by making multiple lines at once.
        Mouse
        Click on a piece from the bottom of the playing field and drag it to the place you want it to appear in the playing field.
        If a piece is colored that means there is a place you can fit it on the playing field.
        If a piece is gray it means there is not a place you can fit it on the playing field.
        In such a case you can slide that piece to hold & then get more pieces.
        If you have already used the hold position or have multiple gray pieces you can also rotate the hold piece or shuffle it.
        Touchscreen
        Use your finger like a mouse & tap on the pieces you want to move and drag them to the squares you want to move pieces to.

        Piece movement
        The three aspects of this game which are easier than Tetris are:
        You are shown up to three pieces at a time.
        Pieces or lines do not fall & you can place your pieces anywhere they fit on the grid.
        The game is not timed, so you do not get rushed anxiety which drives mistakes.
        There are many aspects of this game which make it harder than Tetris
        While you start each round with three pieces, you must use all three pieces (or use two and put one in the hold position) before getting more pieces.
        You can store a single piece in storage, but then your only options with it if you can’t lay it are to rotate it or shuffle it for another piece.
        In some cases when you shuffle pieces you get the same piece again.
        Some pieces (like the 3 by 3 square) are unfortunately the same when turned.
        You only can rotate a single piece one time & do not get any more rotations unless you score a multiple line make.
        The wider range of pieces in the game makes it harder to ensure your layout can make lines while having flexibility to lay new pieces from the next round
        The game board starts off with a piece filled in on each corner one piece from the edge.
        Strategy
        When the game starts there is already a gray square one piece in from each of the 4 corners.
        Try to fill out around these to not leave small odd blank spaces.
        Once you have completed a line using one of these gray pieces it disappears from the playing field just like other blocks do.
        As much as possible try to leave fairly solid filled in areas on most of the playing field and try to ensure you have space near some part of the field for any of the biggest piece elements, including the following, keeping in mind how limited piece turns are:
        3×3
        4×2
        5×1
        Piece laying strategy
        When a piece in the “hold” position is colorful it means you can play it in the playing field.
        Laying the hold piece is valuable because it provides added flexibility in allowing you to use that feature again.
        If you place the final piece of a set of 3 in the hold position you get a new set of 3 more pieces
        Typically it makes sense to use your largest or hardest to lay pieces first as the smaller pieces are easier to fill out on the board.
        Be aware of how using some pieces may preclude using others & what new piece lay opportunities may arise by completing lines.
        Turning vs shuffling
        The turn and shuffle buttons show how many turns and shuffles you have remaining on them.
        In general the shuffle is more powerful than the turn, so if you can make a turn work then it is recommended to use the turn option first.
        When turning an item you can repeatedly turn its direction with the rotations only counting as a single turn when you place that object in play.
